Several new projects are coming up in 2021 in the Dordogne Valley, a nature and heritage destination par excellence: the creation of a wine tourism venue on the riverbanks in Bergerac, new service providers for van or bicycle road trips, the opening of several unusual accommodations, a top-of-the-range hotel, etc…

New sites and activities not to be missed

Quai Cyrano, a new venue dedicated to « wine and tourism in Pays de Bergerac », 

Ideally located on the port on the banks of the river Dordogne, Quai Cyrano offers visitors a warm welcome: its wine bar offers tastings of 160 local Bergerac-Duras wines and the area also has electric and regular bicycles for hire, enabling guests to ride along the greenway and river.

Tour of la Roque-Gageac’s troglodytic fort, at the heart of Black Périgord

The third most important site in France after Mont-Saint-Michel and Rocamadour, this troglodytic fort reopened to visitors in June 2020 after major rehabilitation and development works. This astonishing place, clinging to the cliff and overlooking the Dordogne River, offers a modern museography based on portraits of figures who have marked the history of the region and offers a breathtaking view of the Dordogne valley.

Itinérêve, a splendid itinerant hike in Corrèze   

Near the charming village of Aubazine, where Coco Chanel spent part of her childhood, IItinérêve is a 200 km itinerary to discover the landscapes of the Upper Dordogne valley. On the border between Corrèze and Cantal, hike along the Dordogne River in a particularly preserved natural environment, away from the main tourist routes, and enjoy exceptional and spectacular landscapes. The wild gorges offer breathtaking views and profuse built heritage as you pass through the villages and by the five large dams that have reshaped the valley over time. The Departmental Biodiversity Reserve of Argentat, in Correze

On the site of the former gravel pits of Argentat-sur-Dordogne, registered as a “sensitive nature area”, this biodiversity reserve now offers an exceptional natural environment, rich in fauna and flora, that must be preserved. Thanks to the ecological restoration work carried out on the site, this reserve now hosts a mosaic of environments and a range of animal species. Since the opening in July 2020, the landscape has been transformed and nature is reclaiming its rights on this formerly extremely mineral land. A free application dedicated to its discovery will delight visitors of all ages who are curious about nature.
