DAY 1 : Sare and Aïnhoa

  • Morning: walk in Sare and its 17th- and 18th-Century houses, its square and pediment. Visit the caves of Sare with a sound and light show, then savour the delights of the Basque cake museum. Lunch in a venta, a typical restaurant on the Spanish border.
  • Afternoon: Visit Aïnhoa and its red and green halftimbered houses with their flowered balconies. Glass blowers, wood carvers and other craftsmen animate the village all year round. Late evening: Visit Espelette and discover its famed chilli at the Ramuntxo workshop.

DAY 2 : Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

  • Morning: stopover city for pilgrims, visit of the fortified city by a country storyteller.
  • Afternoon: outdoor activity of your choice: hiking in the footsteps of pilgrims, cycling in the Aldudes valley, rafting-canyoning on the Nive, and fishing.

DAY 3 : Navarrenx

  • Morning: explore the preserved treasures of the medieval bastide and the military stronghold with a tour guide.
  • Afternoon: discover the secrets of Navarrenx cigar making (EPV label), with a cigar-rolling workshop, plus a tasting of local charcuterie.

DAY 4 : La Bastide-Clairence 

  • Morning: stroll in the medieval bastide, which has preserved its original architecture and maintains its traditional crafts, with sculptors, glassmakers, potters, and weavers.
  • Afternoon: hike on foot, or on donkeys, from Bastide-Clairence or follow the cheese route to meet a producer from Ossau-Iraty.
