France’s number one golfing destination, Nouvelle-Aquitaine is a veritable paradise for lovers of the sport, with extraordinary courses and mind-blowing green landscapes. History fans should give the Golf de Pau – the world’s oldest golf course on Continental Europe – a try. Amidst the vineyards above the river Charente, Golf du Cognac is a true nature haven. A land of rugby par excellence !

With nearly 400 clubs (including Aviron Bayonnais, Biarritz Olympique, UBB, SUA Agen) and 80,000 members, Nouvelle-Aquitaine is the land of rugby. More than a third of the top-level clubs competing in France’s top 14 professional rugby union club are from Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The lively grandstand atmosphere, matches and post-match celebrations are thrilling moments to share, including with other international team supporters who come to attend European competitions.

Riding the waves

Biarritz became France’s top surf town in 1957. However, Nouvelle-Aquitaine’s surf spots are not exclusively on the Basque Coast. The beaches of Ile d’Oléron, Médoc (Soulac, Carcans Océan, Lacanau) and the Landes area (Biscarrosse, Moliets and Mimizan) are also popular among surfers of all levels. Nouvelle-Aquitaine has nearly 400 sports and physical activity establishments related to surfing instruction, including around 100 surf clubs. Accommodation structures focused on the surf industry – and especially surf camps – are becoming more numerous.
