Star gastronomy and a wine-tourism oriented vineyard

Renowned for its traditional dishes and emblematic restaurants, Basque gastronomy also knows how to renew and innovate: upmarket and starred restaurants, new labels and vegan restaurants, wine tourism label, etc...

  • Renowned for its authentic cuisine, Biarritz – Pays Basque boasts 10 Michelin star restaurants in 2021. Chefs draw their inspiration from the roots of Basque cuisine, giving pride of place to local products. New in 2021: two restaurants awarded for their sustainable gastronomy.

  • Xuxu, the first "Ocean Friendly" and 100% Vegan restaurant in the Basque Country: just a few minutes from Biarritz’s Grande Plage beach, this restaurant offers gourmet cuisine where everything is homemade with fresh, local, gluten-free and organic produce. It is the first restaurant in the Pays Basque to be awarded an "Ocean Friendly Restaurant" label in January 2021 by the Surfrider Foundation of Biarritz, and is thus rewarded for its eco-responsible practices, contributing to green transition and the protection of our planet’s oceans.

  • The AOP certified Irouléguy vineyard, has obtained the “Vignobles et Découvertes” label. With this label, the smallest vineyard in France joins the 71 other French wine-growing areas adapting to the expectations and practices of wine tourism enthusiasts. Did you know? This vineyard is closely linked to the nearby Way of Saint James, as it was planted in the 11th century by the monks of Roncesvalles to provide mass wine for pilgrims.
